FUE HAIRTRANSPLANT
Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a type of hair transplant done by taking individual hair follicles from your skin and moving them to another part of your body where hair’s thinner or absent.

What is FUE?
Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) is a method of excising or removing the donor hair for the purpose of hair transplantation. In FUE, various instruments are used to extract the grafts from manual hand-held devices and electrical rotary instruments. In some practices, automated robotic devices are used but in MERAKI HAIR TRANSPLANT we avoid the use of robotic devices, preferring not to delegate the delicate process to machines. The FUE method differs from the strip method because FUE excision sites heal in a random pattern of circular scars, which is easier to hide in patients who prefer to keep their hair very short. Currently, utilizes a variety of instruments and tailors all efforts around maximizing the survivability of the transplanted hairs.

The surgeon, performing the PRP treatment takes ample amount of blood (60-120 ml) from the patient’s body, preferably from the arms.
After taking the blood the surgeon sends it to an authorised lab (every clinic cannot deal with blod products since it is against the law) which labels it and puts it in a centrifuge, which is a machine that spins rapidly at high speed in order to separate different densities in a fluid. The centrifuge operates for around 10 minutes with the blood in it and platelet layer is separated into:
- Platelet-Rich Plasma
- Platelet-Poor Plasma
- Red Blood Cells
The laboratory technician then draws the Platelet-rich plasma into a syringe and after labeling sends it to the Hair Transplant Clinic where the doctor injects it into various parts of the scalp that need hair regrowth. This process continues for quite some time until the results are visibly clear.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Since FUE does not leave a linear scar, this procedure may be more appropriate for patients who want to cut their hair very short in the donor area. It can also be ideal for patients who have had prior strip procedures but no longer possess the scalp laxity to harvest more hair with an additional strip. It also allows the surgeon to harvest hair from other areas of the body such as the beard or chest. Lastly, in those patients who have had prior surgery, they may have enlarged scars in the donor area, which can be camouflaged by strategic placement of FUE grafts into the scar tissue.
During FUE, the donor area of the scalp is trimmed to 2-3 mm in length. Utilizing high-powered magnifying loupes, we are able to visualize the exact angle and direction that the hairs exit the scalp. Small, sharp circular punches are used to make a round incision in the skin around the follicular unit, separating it from the surrounding tissue. The follicular unit graft is then extracted or harvested from the scalp, leaving a small opening, which heals relatively quickly. This process is repeated until it has harvested enough follicular unit grafts to complete the size of the planned procedure.
Depending upon the size of the graft, will use an FUE punch ranging from 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm to harvest the grafts. After the incision is made, the grafts are gently removed and examined under the microscope to verify the quality of the extraction and remove any excess skin. The grafts are then placed into the slits with micro-forceps.
Follicular Unit Excision requires a highly skilled and experienced surgeon in order to perform the technique successfully . Each graft must be extracted in the center of a very small 1.0 mm punch to avoid transecting and damaging the graft. Meraki hair transplant is having the most experienced surgeon practicing FUE in Pune and he has been performing the procedure since 2004 when the FUE method was still in its infancy.
You can return home immediately after the transplantation procedure, although you should be sure to get plenty of rest. You’ll be given care instructions to follow including protecting your scalp from sun damage, sleeping in the right position, and washing your hair accordingly. Most patients can return to their normal schedules within a few days, but you should expect to wear your hair short in the back for at least two weeks since the donor area will be trimmed very short.
It’s important to be patient with your results. Most patients begin to see new hair growth within about three to four months with visible results beginning to emerge after six months.
Although most patients enjoy long-term results with FUE, it’s important to discuss your options to maintain new hair growth with options like medications, platelet-rich plasma treatments, and laser therapies. Combined with FUE, this treatment approach can produce comprehensive, resilient results.
PRP hair loss treatment is a way to temporarily regain fullness in thinning hair and delay onset of extensive baldness. However no detailed scientific study has yet corroborated this fact. However what is known is that most patients are happy with the treatment. However, the results aren’t visible before at least three months of regular sessions.
To start with weekly injections are administered for 3 months followed by a maintenance dose every 3-6 months for one year. Thereafter booster yearly does are recommended tailoring it with the patient’s response and needs all the while. All said, PRP is not effective in 35-50% of patients. Hence after 203 injections, if there is no increase in hair diameter, it should not be continued.
Just like any major treatment or medical process, PRP hair loss treatment has some restrictions. However, these post-treatment instructions aren’t very restrictive. Here are the prominent ones:
Just like any major treatment or medical process, PRP hair loss treatment has some restrictions. However, these post-treatment instructions aren’t very restrictive. Here are the prominent ones:
- Some mild red patches with inflammation might be visible. But these would be present for a few hours only.
- There should not be any chemical application to the scalp in the first 48 hours after PRP.
- You may shampoo your hair normally after a few hours from the treatment. However, make sure you use a mild shampoo.
- If you have been on hair growth tonics or treatments, like Minoxidil, you should resume from the day after.
Unlike hair transplant surgery, PRP hair loss treatment is more like recurring therapy. Having consistency in treatment and sticking to a protocol is the key. The treatment sessions would be regular and scheduled right on the first day. Hence, keeping a consistent pace with the surgeon is very important to see great results.
The first major visible result is the lessening of hair loss, which is possible by pushing a faster hair growing cycle. Following this, there will be a drop in hair fall pattern, which is a sign of good hair growth.
PRP for hair loss is an effective treatment but not a replacement for a hair transplant since it has no use in treating baldness. It only thickens thinning areas by boosting the anagen phase of the life cycle. More hair follicles are in the anagen phase.
In the right candidate it has immense utility and mostly patients have been noted to be happy after 3 months. Moreover it is a lunch-time procedure. To know more about this treatment or to get a trial. Let us see if PRP works for you or not.
